Are you still trying to figure out where to buy your favorite laptop? If so, you might want to check out HP’s new Book Pro 14 laptop. It’s a great laptop that meets all your needs and can give your employees a great work experience. Not only does it look great, but it’s also super powerful. It’s more than just a thin and light laptop – it’s a workhorse that can help you get more done.

Multitasking, stress-free heavy office

When we’re on the job, we use a bunch of different apps, like Edge browser to ask questions, which we usually open up to 20 to 30 pages at a time. We use Microsoft Word to edit text and make documents, and PowerPoint for presentations. We also use a bunch of Office apps, plus apps like WeChat, QQ, Tencent Meeting, and others for chatting and working together.

When you have these programs running, it puts a lot of pressure on your computer’s CPU, RAM, and other parts. If your computer isn’t running as well as it should, it can cause your fan to spin like crazy, and it can even freeze and crash your system, which can really mess with your productivity.

Exploring the Possibilities of the Test Machine

We’ve got the test machine in our hands and it’s got a standard Intel i5-13500H pressure processor. It’s got four big cores, four tiny cores, and 12 physical cores. It can go up to 4.7GHz with a turbo frequency. Plus, it’s got 16GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage, so you don’t have to worry about running out of space. The cooling module is all set up to make sure everything runs smoothly. The HP Control Center has two modes – Performance Mode and Balanced Mode – so you can adjust the scheduling strategy to make sure the CPU is running at its best in real life.

When we put the computer in performance mode, it puts a lot of strain on it. The CPU can handle more than 40W of power consumption for a long time. The performance is pretty good, which is way better than regular thin and light laptops that don’t adjust as much for heat. That’s why it can easily handle high-pressure work – it has great performance release and great heat dissipation, so you get great application processing capabilities all the time.

Daily office test (Word, PPT, Excel multi-opening)

At the start of the office stuff, we’ll open up two Word docs, two 100 MB PowerPoint docs, two Excel docs, and 20 Edge web pages, including some online videos and some live videos. We’ll also have a chat client running in the background. When we’re all running at the same time, we’ll check out how fast the processor is and how much memory it can read. Thanks to all the RAM and multi-core processors, our system is running at 65%, the CPU is only using 9% of its capacity, and our computer is running at a great speed.

16348744_84928765_thumb

When we’re using the computer right now, whether we’re switching between different windows or writing in Word, PowerPoint, or Excel, it’s super smooth. Plus, the fan noise is pretty low, so it won’t bother anyone around us. The internal hardware heat is also pretty good, with the processor temperature around 60°C and the keyboard not feeling too hot. All in all, it’s a great experience!

Open multiple VMs for testing

Put some pressure on HP’s Star Book Pro 14 and see how it does when you need to write software or troubleshoot it. In this example, we need to run multiple virtual machines on the laptop. That means the laptop’s processor and memory need to be running at a much higher speed than they are when you’re in the office. Usually, when you turn on a virtual machine, the computer just stutters.

16348744_94928770_thumb

HP Book Pro 14 originally came with 16GB of high-capacity RAM, which can support up to 5 virtual machines. Each VM has 2GB of memory, which is a lot more than what’s usually seen in the industry. That means you have an extra 6 GB of memory that you can use to run other applications on your Win11 system.

We opened up 5 of these virtual machines and while they were running, we could do stuff like Enterprise WeChat, check info in Chrome, and even do video conferences and remote screen projections. We didn’t have any problems writing code on the laptop. So let’s push your computer a bit harder and see how some creative software can really push your performance.

Photoshop image processing test

I wanted to see if I could still make my computer more efficient, so I ran Photoshop on 20 20 megapixel photos. When you’re working with big, high-res images, it’s a good way to get a general idea of how efficient your computer is. You need to know how many processors there are, how often they’re used, how big the cache is, and how much power the GPU has. The SSD’s reading speed will also have a big effect on how efficient your image processing is.

16348744_104928776_thumb

↑ 20 40-megapixel images are about 1.6GB in size

I loaded 20 40 MB raw images into Photoshop. I chose all 20 from CameraRaw and then imported them into Photoshop so I could speed up the loading process. The memory usage is almost 100% at this point, but all the images are loaded and the software doesn’t crash because there’s no memory overflow. The 20 pics process is super fast – it only takes 23 seconds! That’s pretty good for a thin and light laptop.

16348744_114928780_thumb

We then exported our 20 raw images to 1500*1000 JPG files in small batches using the “image processor”. We timed it and it only took 21 seconds. The processing speed was good and the computer was stable, so all the pictures processed without any stuttering or crashes.

Gremere Pro Video Editing Test

Let’s check out what it can do when it comes to video editing. Video editing requires some extra hardware, especially the GPU’s ability to encode and decode video. The 13th generation Core i5- 13500H processor has Xe graphics built-in (80Eu on i5s and 96Eu on i7s) that can be sped up by GPU hardware. This means you can watch 1080P video in real time without any stuttering in your editing workflow.

↑ 1080P video playback process without frame loss

Basically, if you’re looking to edit and edit 1080P video, this computer is the way to go. When we tried to encode a 4-minute, 30-second video using H265, it only took 2 minutes, 30 seconds. The video processing is really good, so it should be able to handle all the work that comes with 1080P video editing.

If you’re looking for a high-end computer, the i7 13700H version is a good choice, but if you’re looking for something more budget-friendly, the i7 96Eu has better graphics performance and video editing power. The i5 13500H version is still a good choice for the average person, though.

↑ H265 encoding 4 minutes and 30 seconds video actually only takes about 2 minutes and 30 seconds

Nowadays, more and more offices and meetings are mobile, so it’s no surprise that laptops can run out of battery after a few hours out in the sun. On busy business trips, you don’t have a lot of time to wait around for your laptop to charge up. HP’s Star Book Pro 14 has a decent battery life of over 9 hours, which is pretty good for a regular processor notebook.

When we’re working on videos and photos, it’s important to make sure the color and brightness of the display are accurate. It’s a good idea to use a good monitor if you want to get a really sharp color display. HP has a range of LCD screens and OLED screens to fit the needs of professionals.

16348744_164928793_thumb

Whether it’s LCD or OLED, they all have a 16:10 gold ratio design, which means the vertical dimension is about 10% bigger than the standard 16:9 screen size. This is great for reading and watching movies, working in the office, and for professional design, since you can see more content on one screen.

16348744_174928794_thumb

The 2K LCD screen has a better picture quality than most regular notebooks on the market. It has a 1080P resolution, but the display looks more subtle. It has a color gamut that’s close to 100% sRGB, and it has a maximum brightness of over 350 nits. It’s perfect for everyday use in the office and drawing.

16348744_184928796_thumb

16348744_194928796_thumb

The OLED screen has a 2.8K resolution and is close to 100% color gamut. It has a peak brightness of over 500 nits and supports 10-bit colors. It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a <1ms response time, which helps reduce motion blur when watching videos. It can also show fast-changing images more clearly, which is great for HDR viewing and creating.

Meetings are also efficient

When you’re having an outdoor video chat, you’re bound to have some portrait blur or noise issues. Most notebooks will have these issues. But not with this notebook. It has a top-mounted 5-MP Ultra-HD camera that will focus perfectly and give you a clear image even in low light. Plus, it has intelligent noise cancellation so it’s super easy to start video calls, even in bright outdoor settings and in noisy areas.

16348744_224928799_thumb

↑The 5 million pixel camera has clearer images, and the super fill light is not afraid of the dark environment

We’re in the same network space and we’re entering the same meeting. In the office lighting, you can easily tell that the HP Book Pro 14 has a 5MB camera, which gives you a brighter video conference picture. The person’s skin tone is more natural and there’s less distortion in the picture. But if you’re using an FHD camera laptop, you’ll get a smudgey feeling in the picture, and it’s turquoise in the skin. Plus, a lot of the background is overexposed. So, obviously, the HP star book pro 14 camera has a better video conference effect.

The clarity of speech is a key factor that is considered to be more important than picture quality when having a video conference. Many people have reported that when they open the microphone after a video conference, there is a large echo and the sound is clear, or while they are speaking, they hear a door closing sound and noise coming from their headphones.

Therefore, it is necessary to have a good microphone and a noise reduction function on the computer in order to have a successful video conference. The HP Star Book Pro 14 is equipped with a dual-array microphone that supports AI intelligent noise cancellation, which helps to filter out noise and echo and improves the quality of voice and recognisability.

In a loud office, we did a recording test. You can see in the picture above that when you turn off the noise cancellation feature on the HP StarBook Pro 14, you’ll see obvious waveforms on the recorder. That means the microphone is picking up a ton of noise.

But when you turn on the noise cancellation feature, when you’re not talking, you won’t see any undulating waveforms on the recording curve. That’s because the noise reduction feature takes all the noise out of the room and gives you clear speech when you’re having a video conference.

16348744_244928803

It’s also worth noting that the HP Book Pro 14 has a lot more ports, like two fully-functioning USB Type-C Thunderbolt 3.2 ports and two USB 3.2 Thunderbolt 3.1 ports. It also has one headset-in-one, one HDMI2.1, and one MicroSD card slot. All of these ports make it easy to work on the go, present presentations at meetings, project screens, and create content.
